Saget la Perrière, Sauvignon Blanc La Petite Perriere – White Collection

Capable of a vast array of styles, Sauvignon Blanc is a crisp, refreshing variety that equally reflects both terroir and varietal character. Though it can vary depending on where it is grown, a couple of commonalities always exist—namely, zesty acidity and intense aromatics. This variety is of French provenance. Along with Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc is a proud parent of Cabernet Sauvignon. That green bell pepper aroma that all three varieties share is no coincidence—it comes from a high concentration of pyrazines (herbaceous aromatic compounds) inherent to each member of the family.

If ever a river and the surrounding landscapes encapsulated the French national identity and lifestyle, it would surely be the Loire and the wine regions that line it. Stretching from one side of the country to the other, the river of kings has been the homeland to the Saget family for nine generations. Originally from Pouilly-sur-Loire, they decided over twenty years ago to head off in search of other treasures that our beautiful wine region could offer. Over the years, their quest led them along both banks of the river, reaching out to local winegrowers and terroirs.

2020 was a special year for the vines, with a very sunny spring and an early budburst which gave cause for concern when, in mid-April, the temperatures ventured below the fateful zero-degree mark. But thanks to the dedication and commitment of the team, the harvesting period was entered into with reasonable optimism.

In the Centre-Loire vineyards, the harvest was very early but took place in good conditions thanks largely to the monitoring of the ripening plot-by-plot. The extremely hot weather required picking the grapes very early in the morning to ensure they remained in good condition, thereby preventing the risk of oxidation in the press. The grapes showed a lovely maturity level and good health, with intense aromas and a lovely freshness. This is a year of very good quality in the white wines, with relatively low alcohol levels indicating a good balance.

On the nose, a wide range of fragrances, from vegetal with ivy and acacia to fruity with peach and lychee. A fresh start, opening for persistent mineral and fruity notes with a lingering finish on the palate.
