Named after Todd’s niece, the McKenna’s Sauvignon Blanc is barrel fermented in a selection of 10% new French oak, 80% used French oak, and 10% stainless steel barrels. Additional complexity is built by using a combination of specifically selected yeast strains as well as wild yeast, to ferment the wine in a barrel for 6 months. The yeast strains provide distinct aromatic, flavor, and textural characters that give the wine its extra dimension. Of course, the most important component is the fruit and the Rutherford site with its gravelly-clay loam soils that this fruit comes from produces gorgeous, classically styled Sauvignon Blanc.
The 400 cases produced in 2021 provide a beautifully aromatic wine with citrus, white peach, herb, and tropical fruit notes. Broad and lush in the mouth and framed with bright, refreshing acidity. Flavors cruise across the palate with lemon, citrus rind, white blossom, and complex notes of herb and minerals. Long, bright, and full flavor finish.
