Maggy Hawk, White Pinot Noir; 2019

The northern half of Anderson Valley – what locals call The Deep End – is typically shrouded in a thick fog that rolls in from the nearby Mendocino coastline. Here, the Maggy Hawk Vineyard, Skycrest Vineyard, and Edmeades Vineyard are tucked away among the valley’s rolling hillsides, surrounded by redwoods.

The Maggy Hawk Vineyard is their Anderson Valley flagship. It has been family-owned since 1994 and planted in 2000, the estate vineyard is tucked away in “The Deep End” of Anderson Valley, northwest of Philo. Here, coastal fog and redwoods frame the steep vineyard slopes where the vines root deeply to survive. The decomposed sandstone soils offer few nutrients but excellent drainage, resulting in small yields of well-structured fruit that can go the distance in the cellar. The White Pinot Noir is 100% Pinot clone 777 and sees 9 months f aging in 100% neutral French oak barrels. It is sleek, fresh, and weighty. It delivers white peach, candied ginger, Asian pear, and quince aromas. On the palate you’ll find a weighty, silky texture, followed by lively acidity that runs through the center of the palate, highlighting notes of pear, apricot, and honey flavors. This unique wine offers an entirely original and truly beautiful sensory experience for this limited, 360 case, production.
